Services will be Wednesday for Lydia Mechanic, who died Thursday in Watsonville
following a long illness. She was 37.
A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she moved to the Santa Cruz area and
was a 1972 graduate of Harbor High School. She was an architect design
major at UC Berkeley, and later specialized in facility designs for the
disabled. She obtained her master's degree at UC Berkeley, had been
working toward her doctorate and was a student service administrator for
the university system.
She is survived by her mother, Eve Mechanic of Watsonville; her sister,
Amy Gear of Moss Beach; and her dear friend Lennis Jones of Berkeley.
Her father, Marvin Mechanic of Santa Cruz, died in 1973.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Norman's Family Chapel,
3620 Soquel Drive, Soquel. Committal will be private, at a later date.
