The pictures chosen for publication in
the
yearbook were decided by the yearbook editorial staff, not the
photographers. We
(the photographers) could make suggestions, but the decisions were not
ours. The good photo of Mike and Linda Z together was "split up" to make
two individual pictures. I guess they had to do that because one was a
cheerleader and the other was a song queen.
Enchanted Horseplay
A story from Richard Dingman, SHS '72
There was some occasion when many South High students were at the beach
at night during a red tide. The breaking waves were luminescent,
and on the sand rays shot forth before our feet at every step. I
was in the water, near some girls who left luminous wakes as they waded
or swam. Roger Marumoto’s head surfaced near one of them who was
standing with her shoulders out of the water. He squirted a
mouthful toward her in a thin jet which glowed where it struck her
back. I marveled at the readiness of the algae to glow: that the
normally invisible hairs on her back were, for a few moments, like
stars. She scolded him cheerfully: Oh, Roger!
